Submitting Artwork
All applications should be submitted by email to nnewth@theriversidecentre.org.uk and include the following information:
The applicants name, mobile telephone number and home address.
A paragraph to describe the artist*; training or experience, (age), aspirations, plans for the future etc
Another paragraph or two describing the work* being submitted; including style, mediums used or preferred, inspiration for the work, number of pieces being submitted etc
At least two photographs of work intended to be displayed.
Judging
Every application will be reviewed by our judging panel. All decisions are final; rejected applications may reapply. When evaluating submissions for Community Canvas, the following criteria will be used to ensure a fair and comprehensive assessment- these criteria aim to celebrate creativity, technical skill, and alignment with the project’s goals; Artistic merit, technical proficiency, originality, presentation & display.
The following additional considerations will also be taken into account;
Artist’s Statement: The coherence, clarity, and insight provided in the accompanying statement or application.
Audience Engagement: Potential for the work to engage and resonate with a diverse audience.
Diversity and Inclusion: Efforts to represent varied perspectives, voices, or cultural narratives.

Successful applications
Short-listed applicants will be invited by telephone to view the project space and confirm the number of pieces to be displayed and the amount of hanging space required. Once this is decided we will offer you a three-month time-frame; Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter.
Spring 2025 : 10th March
Summer 2025 : 10th June
Autumn 2025: 10th September
Winter 2025: 10th December
Spring 2026: 9th March
As part of the projects marketing strategy, we will also require a short 100 – 200 word storyboard/bio to display alongside your art, and for us to use on our promotional social media. We are able to write something for you using the information you supplied with your application if required.
Displaying your work
All work should be framed and mounted with suitable fixings for hanging. The maximum weight of any one piece should not exceed 12kg.
The Riverside Centre reserves the right to offer two or more artists display space at the same time.
The Riverside Centre will not be liable for any loss, damage or theft of artwork. All artists must sign and return the Terms & Conditions acceptance form.
Payment
The Riverside Centre will not take any commission from sale of work whilst on display. Artists are free to set prices as they see fit should they wish to sell their work. Any payment must be arranged directly between the artist and the buyer, no money shall be collected by The Riverside Centre on behalf of the artist.
